US & China Join Forces to Seize Counterfeit Goods

According to reuters.com, USA and China has teamed up to seize counterfeit goods. During this long month operation, they focused on goods in ports exported from China or imported into the US.

"China is the primary source of counterfeit and pirated goods in the United States and accounts for 72 percent of all seizures relating to intellectual property rights, according to the U.S. agency's fiscal 2012 statistics."

Only one arrest was made in this process, but this is just a start. This task force has seized more than 243,000 fake electronic products, including Apple, Samsung, Dr. Dre and Blackberry. All of these products are popular consumer items.

Massachusetts Man Charged with Selling Counterfeit Semiconductors


According to www.justice.gov, Peter Picone of Methuen, MA., has been charged and indictment with eight counts regarding importing counterfeit semiconductors from China to the USA.

At least two of the circuits were intended for active-duty nuclear submarines in Groton.

The charges range from between February 2007 to April 2012, through two companies Tytronix Inc. and Epic International Electronics, purchased counterfeit product from sources in Hong Kong and China. The eight counts include, "conspiring to traffic in counterfeit goods, conspiring to traffic in counterfeit military goods, trafficking in counterfeit goods, conspiring to commit wire fraud, wire fraud and conspiring to commit money laundering".

Oxygen Electronics has always taken measures against counterfeit products, and companies who purchase and sell them. Oxygen Electronics has never purchased from Epic International Electronics and has had Tytronix as a disqualified vendor since 2006 as a result of our poor experience with the vendor between 2005 and 2006. We have reached out to customers, to ensure the necessary steps to  continue implementing and managing quality.

Slowly Getting Better....

According to Globalpurchasing.com, 2013 will be a slight year for growth in the Electronics Supply Chain.  Rising costs, taxes, shipping, and many more key concerns are occurring throughout the supply chain.

Michael Knight of TTI states that in 2012, the Electronics industry "went sideways". He also states that "there's a possibility that 2013 will be another 'sideways'". He estimates a 2% or 3% plus or minus to the industry.

French Customs Seize Counterfeit Electronic Components


According to CBP.gov, the CBP, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, with partnership of the French Customs, have worked vigorously targeting counterfeit computer and electronic components "including semiconductors, computer networking equipment, hard drives, and memory cards".

The CPB have seized 480 shipments of possible harmful counterfeit electronic components between November 1st, 2013 to April, 2013.

Al Gina, CBP Assistant Commissioner, and François Richard, French Customs Attaché , both agree that these counterfeit products are a huge problem for the country's economy and the people's health and safety. Customs leaders from both nations are extremely happy with the results, and plan to continue working together.
