Unsealed Lawsuit Alleges Military Safety Gear Made With Counterfeit Microchips

According to WFLA.com, a lawsuit that has been recently unsealed by a federal judge, shows that the U.S. Military safety gear was made with counterfeit microchips.

This suit filed by Conax on behalf of the US Government alleges the company knowingly sold counterfeit and/or defective safety gear to NASA without letting the Department of Defense contractors aware. The microchips were being used in SEAWARS. "SEAWARS separates pilots who eject into water from their parachutes with an electrically triggered explosive charge in order to keep them from drowning in their rigging." This lawsuit began because of an unusual high failure rate in testing.

According to this article, an independent broker, obtained this parts in Asia, but had no idea the parts were counterfeit.  For the complete article, please click here.

Oxygen Electronics has long been an advocate that purchasing components in China is very dangerous and that if considering purchasing from Chinese Independent Distributors, advanced inspection techniques and testing should be utilized to ensure that counterfeit goods do not enter the supply chain.   Oxygen Electronics has reviewed our history of purchasing from the Independent Broker mentioned in this article and assessed the risks to our clients of which there are no risks of exposure to counterfeit goods.
